Last week, Dr. Linda Lamwers, the provost of West Chester University, announced her retirement.

Effective in June, Dr. Lamwers circulated an email to WCU administration and faculty early Wednesday morning stating: “Together we have achieved much—strong academic programs, our first doctorates, great demand and national ratings, accreditation and a focus on student success. So I thank you for the opportunities (and challenges) which have been a part of my life for the past 19 plus years.”

Dr. Lamwers has not requested a university retirement event. She would rather have “personalized notes or cards from those with whom I have worked.”

Dr. Madeleine Wing Adler, West Chester University’s previous president, had the upmost praise for the provost.

“She was the best provost the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education ever had,” Adler said. “Linda did so much to make West Chester a nationally recognized institution.”

Dr. Lamwers twice served as the interim president for West Chester University.

The first time was when Dr. Adler fell ill with cancer, and the second time was after Adler’s retirement and before Dr. Greg Weisenstein became president.

Before Dr. Lamwers came to West Chester University, she was a professor of psychology at St. Cloud State University, where she also served as the Assistant/Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Two days after Dr. Lamwers announced her retirement, Dr. Weisenstein announced that Dr. Laurie Bernotsky would serve as the interim provost and vice president to Academic Affairs.
