On Thursday, Jan. 21, the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) appointed Dr. Christopher M. Fiorentino as West Chester University’s interim president. This change will be effective Friday, April 1, after WCU’s current president, Dr. Greg R. Weisenstein, retires at the end of March. Dr. Weisenstein has been the president of WCU since March of 2009.

Dr. Fiorentino joined the WCU economics faculty in 1983, and he became dean of the College of Business and Public Affairs in 1993. He has three degrees in economics, all of which he got from Temple University.

In a press release from PASSHE, Board of Governors Chairman Guido M. Pichini said, “Dr. Fiorentino has been at West Chester for more than 20 years, as a faculty member, a dean and a vice president. He has a firm understanding of the university and its mission. We are confident he will continue to provide strong leadership to the institution while we search for a new, permanent president.”

The press release from PASSHE also noted that the search for a permanent president will start later in the year.
