Binging on pizza is all fun and games until you sit back and realize how many calories you just consumed. But what if I told you there was a place that served healthier (but still delicious) pizza?

If you haven’t been to The Couch Tomato, then you’re missing out! This tasty spot is located at 31 W. Gay St. and has something on the menu for everyone.

All the ingredients used are locally-sourced and organic. The menu also features vegan and gluten-free items. The Couch Tomato offers pizza, sandwiches and salad, plus a variety of smaller snacks and sides. You can choose one of the many pizza, sandwich and salad creations they already have on the menu for you or you can customize your own—either way, you won’t be disappointed.

When I visited, I decided to create my own pizza. First, you choose your crust, with the options being white, wheat or gluten-free. All the pizza dough is organically made in-house. Once you pick your type of crust, you choose a sauce. Sounds easy, right? You might change your mind when you realize they offer way more options than just the traditional red sauce. They have sauces like BBQ, basil pesto, roasted garlic and fig pesto just to name a couple. Once you’ve nailed down the crust and the sauce, it’s time for the best part—the toppings!

Choose from any of the 20-plus toppings they have to offer. Whether you like your pizza to have veggies or loaded with meat, The Couch Tomato has you covered. I ordered the white crust, house-roasted tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, jalapeños and ricotta cheese, and it was amazing.

In addition to pizza, sandwiches and salads, they offer homemade soup with options that change daily. They always offer creamy tomato basil soup, but they have three different soups in addition to that. The Couch Tomato also has a seasonal selection that changes depending on what time of year is. The seasonal selection includes a special pizza, sandwich and salad. In addition, the menu has desserts, a Mediterranean platter, garlic knots, cheesy breadsticks, house chips and apple chips.

One of the best parts about The Couch Tomato, aside from the food, is that they have a rooftop eating area. It’s the perfect spot to head to on a nice day because the roof is completely open with tables where you can sit and eat. It is also a BYOB. So next time it’s a nice day out, gather your friends, walk into town, pop a bottle of wine and enjoy the delicious food at The Couch Tomato—you won’t be disappointed!
