For any not familiar with Wilco, they are almost impossible to describe. Their sound can be happy, sad, hard rock, slow and steady, melancholy and optimistic all at the same time. A Ghost is Born, along with their other albums, has something everyone can enjoy, and makes the prefect holiday gift. Interested? Some other bands you may already like who are similar to Wilco are Modest Mouse, The Shins, and Elliott Smith. Check out their Web site at www.wilco.com for more information. To love music, is to love The Unicorns. Perhaps the happiest musicians I've heard in a while, this band takes you on a musical adventure unlike any you've ever known. The Unicorns are three boys that play three instruments and create perfect harmony.

The Unicorns are the definition of ear candy. Sweet and adorable keyboard melodies blended with smooth, soft guitar riffs make you feel like you're floating on air. This album is one of my all-time favorites and is rarely out of rotation in my CD player. For the enchanted, those in-love, or just the fan who is looking for something better than pop music, this album is a definite stocking stuffer. Other bands that have been recommended by Unicorn fans would be The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and the Decemberists. For more information on shows or the band members themselves, just hit up the band's Web site at www.theunicorns.com.

Last, but certainly not least, we have the forever loved and missed Elliott Smith with a CD compiled of his final recordings. Through the tragedy of losing one of music's kindest and gentlest musicians, comes an amazing album to bid him farewell.

From a Basement on a Hill is an amazing set of songs that represent the last words of Elliott Smith. The songs are more positive and upbeat but the unmistakable melancholy tone of his voice still remains the same. This album doesn't stand out from Smith's previous records; it fits in perfectly, just as it should. Elliott Smith listeners have alsobeen known to listen to such bands as Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, and Interpol. Even if you are not interested in the bands mentioned above, From a Basement on a Hill is truly remarkable and really should be an addition to everyone's record collection.
