"The Wedding Date" is a fairy tale. Debra Messing ("Will & Grace") stars as Kat Ellis, an anxiety- ridden single girl, whose sister Amy (Amy Adams, "Catch Me If You Can") is getting married to the boy next door. Kat then learns that the best man will be her exfiance, Jeffrey (Jeremy Sheffield).

In a panicked moment, Kat reads a magazine article about the "new dating scene" where women hire escorts. She gets a hold of hunky Nick Mercer (Dermot Mulroney "My Best Friendʼs Wedding").

She tells her family that he is a therapist and they make up a story about having met at a Knicks game. She doesnʼt want to appear desperate and single in front of her ex, and Nick knows just what to do to play his role well. Nick and Kat immediately hit it off and he is well-liked by her entire family, including her seemingly hard to please mother, Bunny (Holland Taylor, "Two and a Half Men"). Much to Katʼs dismay, her mother makes a ranting speech about how the family thought they would marry Kat off first. Itʼs every single womanʼs nightmare.

The chemistry between Nick and Kat constantly grows, although there are a few moments when the relationship comes into play. There are a lot of funny moments and one-liners that keep the flow of the movie rolling, including a few hilarious comments made by Katʼs cousin T.J (Sarah Parish), who gives a dash of eccentricity to the movie. Nick offers an air of intrigue to the movie. We watch him as he is given a crash course on Katʼs life and how he obviously begins to care for her more than he should, considering his job and what he came there to be.

"The Wedding Date" comes together nicely, and plays into the audienceʼs desire for Kat to be happy. Nick is the kind of man who says all the right things and makes all the right moves while doing it with incredible sincerity, and also offers Kat the kind of love life she wants. Itʼs all wrapped up in a neat little bow at the end.

The movie is charming and Messing and Mulroney play their parts well. Messing plays the part of the single girl who is desperate to look happy in front of her family because she has a new and perfect man. It is not far from the role she plays on her hit show, "Will & Grace."

She stands out as a leading lady dealing with the single life, constantly looking for happiness. Mulroney is suave, charismatic and just what Kat needs. Heʼs honest, with a subtle hint of amusement that he knows exactly what heʼs doing and what to say.

In order to enjoy this movie, however, you have to be a sucker for romance and appreciate a fairy tale. If youʼre in the mood to be wowed by a delicious love fest, make a date with these two--itʼs well worth it.
