Summer is almost here and that means the film studios will be unloading their blockbusters to try to make up for their lack of imagination during the winter and spring months. Now, the biggest and best movies coming to the multiplexes this summer. First and foremost are the big action movies that all of America has been waiting for.
After flops like "Alexander," "King Arthur" and "Troy," who would want to watch a historical epic? Well thanks to Ridley Scott and Orlando Bloom, everyone will. "Kingdom of Heaven" comes out on May 6 and looks to be just as good as Scottʼs Oscarwinning "Gladiator." Bloom plays alongside such great actors as Liam Neeson, Jeremy Irons and newcomer Eva Green in this story of love and power during the Crusades.
Soon the most anticipated movie of the year, no wait, the past 30 years will be unveiled. "Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith" is the one summer movie that will create lines around the block and have fans camping out days in advance for tickets. Director George Lucas completes his masterpiece with a cast that includes Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen. "Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith" comes to theaters on May 19.
Another franchise that is contributing to the movie world this summer is "Batman Begins," which flies into theaters on June 17. "Begins" is a prequel to the first four "Batman" movies. Also, there is a new actor filling the bat shoes. Christian Bale ("American Psycho") rounds out an all-star cast of Katie Holmes, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and many more. "Batman Begins" chronicles the life of Bruce Wayne before he becomes the winged hero.
Finally, the last big blockbuster is from the brilliant mind of Steven Spielberg. "War of the Worlds," starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning, is a remake of the 1953 classic. This film is not the typical Spielberg alien flick. The visitors do not respond to Reeses Pieces nor do they inspire people to sculpt monuments out of mashed potatoes. Tom Cruise must save his family from scary aliens when "War of the Worlds" invades theaters on June 29.
