To the Editor:
I have had it with the noise level at the new diner. I told myself again and again to write to the Quad and now I am. Ever since the diner opened it seems that some people do not understand the concept of "indoor" voices. I understand that everyone in the Diner is a paying customer but I think that people need to respect each other by monitoring their own noise levels. My schedule and the schools food service schedule clash often and I am forced to eat at the Diner late in the evening after 8:00 PM. The noise level is tremendous when I enter the Diner at night. I have eaten at the Diner in the afternoon and it seems fine. At night the noise level is so high, from people shouting to friends in the same booths, singing, and dancing. To make it worse, the loud over barring jukebox is also blaring with a tremendous bass beat. I can not hear myself think nor can I not hear conversations at my own table! To make matters worse the employee working the counter has to shout the order numbers out and that can not be good for his/her voice. I preferred the automated coasters they used to hand out. What ever happened to them? I really think the Diner needs to monitor the noise level for the sake of everyone. It is unfortunate that only a select "few" are making the late night Diner trips unbearable. The Diner should post courtesy signs to remind people of noise levels or ask people to leave if they are being loud and annoying, even if it is the University Public Safety Officers or Security Guards. The overbearing noise has to stop! I know for a fact that I am not the only student that feels this way since I have heard many fellow students complain about this. I think the easiest thing that can be done is have people use "indoor" voices, it is not hard people, we learned about them in kindergarten. I just hope this isn't how they act outside of the University in "public". Sincerely, A WCU Student who wants to eat in peace
