With just under 10 seconds to play, Michelle Kerr delivered her 'Red Light Special' and played a major role in the Golden Rams' 18-13 last second victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Kerr took a pitch out of a scrum and streaked down 30 yards through the Virginia Tech defense in the middle of the field. Kerr carried her club's national playoff chances on her back. "I thought during that play that we might have a chance," Head Coach Tony DeRemer said. "Our team really played inspired down by the goal line."

Ten seconds later the Golden Rams put the exclamation point on an 18-13 playoff victory by converting the try.

West Chester had momentum through most of the first half, striking first, when Whitney Hartshorne converted a penalty kick just under two minutes into the game. "All I can say is clutch," Coach DeRemer commented. "[Whitney] has been our kicker for years and that is why, she really comes up big in clutch situations." Hartshorne was a perfect two for two on penalty kicks, one for one on conversions and was instrumental in the field position battle waged between West Chester and Virginia Tech.

WCU took an early 3-0 lead, but it wasn't long before Tech responded. At the 12 minute mark Belany Reese took a pitch out of an injury timeout and raced eight yards to convert the try, giving the Hoakies a 5-3 lead.

Both teams would net points before the half, and Virginia Tech led l0-6.

Virginia Tech would net a quick try, continuing their offensive pressure early in the second half and opening up a 13-6 lead. WCU answered back two minutes later when Katie Black notched a try, and Hartsborne made the conversion tying it up at 13.

WCU takes on Penn State in the second round of the playoffs next Saturday. Sunday's win over Virginia Tech also guaruntees the Golden Rams a spot in the national tournament.
