The Student Activities Council (SAC) has assembled a fantastic lineup of movies to be shown in the Sykes Student Union theater this fall.
Almost every weekend, a different movie will play at 8 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. Two show times will be available Thursday and Friday nights at 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. At two dollars a ticket (sold at the door) with your Ram-E-card and only one dollar if using Ram Bucks, SAC movies are a cheap and enjoyable weekend activity.
Unfortunately snacks are not provided, but feel free to bring your own!
First to play is Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3." Playing Sept. 6 through 9, this highly anticipated finale lives up to the standard of the first two "Spider-Man" films by weaving a complex web of romance, tri-villain action, endearing humor and a lesson-to-be-learned about self-control.
To balance out the more thrilling "Spider-Man," the following weekend (Sept. 13-16) a certain lovable - not to mention hilarious - green ogre and his fairytale friends will be back in action in Dreamwork's "Shrek the Third."
And what would a complete movie lineup be without swashbuckling pirates played on an outdoor screen? On Sept. 14 at Hollinger field starting around 8 p.m., WCU students are welcome to watch "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" on the big screen.
"The outside movie is great because you can bring food and lawn chairs with friends even from outside the school for free," says Alyssa Polakowski, secretary of SAC. This experience is sure to shiver-your-timbers.
Now, say you're more of a "slapstick comedy" kind of person. From Sept. 20-23, "Knocked Up" is coming to Sykes, embracing contemporary issues while blending hilarity and a touch of emotional awakening regarding consequence - definitely a movie of our time.
Keeping the comedy rolling the next week (Sept. 27-30) is the more heart-felt and sentimental "Evan Almighty." Evan, a modern-day Noah, decides to take action against evil politicians with God and a plethora of exotic animals on his side. "Evan Almighty" will make you laugh with all your might.
