The resignations do not include the remainder of the executive board which was elected in April, shortly before the Spring 2007 semester ended. Still holding office are now President Ben Bräutigam, Treasurer Jai Northcraft, Parliamentarian Laura McGregor and Student Trustee Laura Ness.
"On August 21, Ben Brautigam sent an e-mail note to the SGA Senators alerting them that for personal reasons, Matthew Holliday and Chad Gingrich had resigned from their Executive Board positions," Vice President for Student Affairs and SGA Advisor Matt Bricketto said.
About a week prior to that e-mail, Bräutigam met with Holliday and discussed the idea of resignation.
Both Holliday and Gingrich declined to comment on their resignations and SGA senators cited Bräutigam's e-mail when asked why the executive board had been diminished.
"There is a lot of talent in that room on Tuesday nights," Bricketto said. "There should still be excitement about what SGA can accomplish this year." The SGA Senate, when full, is comprised of 50 students that each represent a specific feature of the University. As per SGA bylaws, a closed vote will be held by the Senate and two senators will be elected to fill the vacant positions of Vice President and Secretary. The election will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 4, upon the commencement of the first SGA meeting of the semester. The newly elected members of the executive board will be sworn in and take office immediately.
There is no word on whether Holliday or Gingrich plan to return in any capacity to SGA.
"My administration and I are anxious to support student involvement and the student body in any way that we can," Bräutigam said.
