The West Chester Golden Rams soccer squad won the only game it played this week, a come-from-behind victory against Kutztown on Thursday.

West Chester entered the game with four league contests to play and toward the back of the league with 12 points, a full 12 points behind the top school in the PSAC, East Stroudsburg.

The Golden Rams and Golden Bears played through the first half deadlocked and scoreless.

Golden Bear Jake Young scored the first goal of the game off a threaded needle pass from Greg Sassaman to put the Bears up 1-0.

The lead stood for close to 10 minutes until West Chester rallied off the foot of senior forward Frank DeMas to knot the game up at 1-1 with 14 minutes to play. Alex Inman registered an assist.

Less than five minutes later, Justin Mackel made an assist to Dave Miller to take the lead for the first time in the contest.

West Chester's defense would hold on and not allow another shot from the Bear attack.

Justin Johnson played through the 73rd minute, but gave way to Peter Weiss, who made his collegiate debut. Johnson made one save while allowing the only Kutztown tally.

Matthew Fredericks went the distance for the Golden Bears recording five saves, but allowed both goals in the loss.

The victory snaps a five-game skid for the Golden Rams moving their overall record to 6-7 and their conference record to 5-5 with two conference games to play at the end of October.
