It is getting close to the end of the semester, and now is the time to buckle down and get the schoolwork done. However, every class is giving another assignment, and an overwhelming feeling begins. Then the thoughts of "I'll do it later" start. What happens next is what happens to a lot of students- procrastination.

Psychologists often cite procrastination as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision. There are many reasons for procrastination: low self-confidence, stubbornness, manipulation and the excuse "I'm too busy." Whatever the reason, there are ways to help procrastination.

According to eHow's Education Editor, when it comes to school work, a daily planner can become a person's best friend and the best way to avoid procrastination.

When you are first given an assignment, you should look at the due date and write it down in your calendar. If it is a long -term assignment, write down in the calendar specific parts of the assignment that needs to be completed by a certain date. This will help to get every part of the project done without having to cram it all together, which can lead to forgetting parts of an assignment.

If there is no deadline when the assignment is given, give yourself a deadline. This way you will not forget about the assignment.

Then, think about how many hours the project or assignment will take. This will help you plan when there will be time to do each part in full. Before bed every night, think about how much time will be spent the following day on the assignment.

When waking up, remember how much time will be dedicated to completing the assignment that day. Set leisure time up for after completing the amount of work needed. It is a good thing to reward yourself after completing the work; this can help keep a person motivated to do the same the next day.

If you are having trouble with the assignment, contact a tutor or your professor for help as soon as your receive the assignment.
