Forensics team captures second place in biennial tournament

West Chester University's Forensics Team captured Second Place at the Pi Kappa Delta Province of the Greater Northeast Biennial Tournament. The tournament was held on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10 at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Hosting school, Ohio University walked away with first place. There are six provinces that constitute the national Pi Kappa Delta organizational structure, over all.

Pi Kappa Delta is the National Forensic honorary. The province stretches from Maine to Virginia and covers west to Ohio and Michigan. Many individual honors were awarded at the tournament.

Susan Berberich, a third-year Honors English education major, walked away with several awards.

These included Superior in Poetry Interpretation and Excellent in Prose Interpretation, Excellence in Single Dramatic Interpretation and Excellent in Dramatic Duo Interpretation with fellow student peer, Sara Franklin.

Dan Blomquist, a fourth-year Honors political science major, tied with fellow teammate Russ Moll for Top Superior in Pentathlon (overall versatility award). Other awards won included: Top Superior in Dramatic Duo with Moll, Top Superior in the Parliamentary Debate, also with Moll. Blomquist also won Top Superior in Informative Speaking and Superior in Impromptu Speaking.

Franklin, a first-year communications major, won Excellent in Dramatic Duo with fellow student peer Berberich.

Moll, a fourth-year Honors political science major, tied with fellow teammate Blomquist for Top Superior in Pentathlon (overall versatility award).

Other awards won included Top Superior in Dramatic Duo with Blomquist and Top Superior in the Parliamentary Debate, also with Blomquist.

Moll also won Top Superior in Extemoraneous Speaking, along with Top Superior in Poetry Interpretation.

Virginia Smith, a first-year communications major, won Excellent in Prose Interpretation, as well as Excellent in Poetry Interpretation.

Along with all student awards, Mark Hickman, WCU's director of Forensics was re-elected for a second term as Governor of the Province of the Greater Northeast.

Berberich was elected to a one year term duration as Student Lieutenant Governor for the province.

Alumna Susan (Paquette) Millsap, who is currently serving on the faculty at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, received the Jeanine R. Barr Service Award for her many years of devoted service to the province and national organization alike.
