The stress of classes, overwhelming assignments and overbearing tests and quizzes leaves a void for an inspirational uplifting.

WCU Gospel choir has touched this University in many capacities throughout the years. Singing with excitement and jubilation at various community centers, churches, colleges, universities, socials and events such as 'the Tenth Annual Miss WCU Pageant, Homecoming festivities, Second Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, Old fashion Christmas, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Observance and Diane Matthews production of Rachel Harris 'One Woman Over the Line,' are just a few engagements.

The Gospel Choir's Lyrical Movement has touched hearts and ears on and off campus from- West Chester to Philadelphia. In and out of state- from Pennsylvania to West Virginia. This choir has even traveled out of the country to Niagara Falls, Canada.

Under the advisement of Mrs. Grace Kelly, Confidential Secretary to the president, Mr. Marcus Harrison, resident director of Sanderson Hall and direction of fourth-year student, John W. Graves, III, this organization serves a dual purpose in spiritually rejuvenating students and faculty members, providing the campus and surrounding areas with 'sweet melodies from heaven.' This choir is holistically founded on the scripture Psalms 97 "O Sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvelous things..."

"The Gospel choir is shaped and molded around a diversified group of distinguished individuals who aren't ashamed to display their talents," says Kiara Thomas, president.

Dedication and compassion are what all the members of this organization share. Singing is only one aspect of this choir; members are avid participants in community service, helping out in local soup kitchens, volunteering at various civic and campus events and holding car washes to better assist their music ministry .

"It is a very good social network and it gives me a way to musically express my talents vocally" says, second-year choir member, Jasmine Clark.
