From April 14-15, West Chester University's Office of Co-Curricular Programs & Contemporary Issues will present the Sargent Shriver's Point of the Lance Conference. The conference will feature a variety of national leaders involved in the Peace Corps and VISTA from the 1960s through the present.
Spring has finally arrived, and the weather is perfect for a nice jog around town. But what is better than just going for a leisurely jog is helping out a great cause at the same time. The Exercise Science Club is holding Ram Run 5K on Saturday, April 19- weather permitting- with April 20 as the selected rain date if need be.
Men who take care of themselves live healthier lives. Sometimes, men do not realize the impact that their health can have on their lives until poor health becomes a problem. To prevent the negative impact of poor health, "man up" and follow some of these simple, health-enhancing suggestions.
Imagine being unable to verbally communicate your likes, dislikes, interests and desires. Picture what it would be like to be restricted from displaying a warm, joyful smile. Think about what life would be like if one could not show any form of affection, and a gesture as simple as hugging a loved one was the most difficult task in the world.
April is National Poetry Month. It is a way to increase awareness of poetry in the world as well as a way to appreciate it. According to www.poets.org, this month gains attention from individuals, poets, poetic heritage and any forms of published poems. The celebration was first started in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets, and it has slowly grown every year in establishing itself as an important event.
April is being recognized for its fourth year as National Garden month. The National Gardening Association (NGA) is gaining popularity as thousands of people across the United States commemorate this time to focus on the correlation between people, plants and the environment.
West Chester University is recognizing the month of April as National Sexual Assault Month. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center 20-25 percent of college women have experienced an attempted or completed rape during their college career.
The West Chester University brothers of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Zeta Nu chapter, displayed their flag proudly this past weekend. Second-year marketing major Anthony DeJesse led the group as they constructed, from the ground up, a wheelchair ramp outside of the Saint Lukes Union American Methodist Episcopal Church on Franklin Street in the borough of West Chester.
It is that time again! West Chester University students are looking forward to their favorite day of the school year when gorillas and students, and students dressed up as gorillas come out to play. Yeah, that is right, it is Banana Day. After last year's Banana Day, the decision was made that Banana Day would take a year off and start up again in 2009.
