The Lady Rams started off strong, controlling the ball in the opponent's zone and scoring quickly with Colleen O'brien's try only six minutes in. Lamm's first conversion try was a bit short, making the score 5-0. This was Lamm's first night kicking conversions since Laura Meier is out with a torn meniscus and Whitney Hartshorne is still nursing her ankle injury.
Norwich was quick to come back, driving into West Chester territory and finally breaking around the outside to tie it up at five. Norwich had strong outside runners, which was the biggest threat the entire night. This was as close as the game got until West Chester broke it open 10 minutes later.
The first of four trys in less than 10 minutes came from Junior Beverly Schmitz 24 minutes in. Rookie Megan Lamm converted her first ever try, making the score 12-5.
Four minutes later, Cabry Gray took it in. Again, Lamm added the two point conversion. Megan Godfrey was next in line, this time waiting only two minutes, and the conversion knocked the score up to 26-5. Freshmen Kate Rada, who played rugby in high school, capped off the first half scoring three minutes later with her first ever try at the collegiate level.
Afterwards, she was jumping up and down in excitement, only able to utter the words "Unbelievable!"
Two minutes before the half, Norwich again made a break around the left side to take a little bit off the lead, going into the half down 31-20. Michelle Kirk made a nice stop at the goal line to save the try, but was unable to recover in time to keep them out.
West Chester didn't stop there. They came right out of the huddle charging, and scoring quickly once again eight minutes in, this time off the effort of Sophomore Drew Groswith, who caught a line-drive-punt drilled right into her gut and ran it in for the score. Megan Lamm converted for the fourth time of the night in her first ever game as converter, as well as filling in for Meier at fullback.
"I was scared out of my mind, but it was a lot of fun," Lamm said after the game.
"Megan Lamm did a fantastic job at fullback," Laura Meier said of Lamm's outstanding performance. "She converted kicks that Whiney [Hartshorne] and I couldn't have."
