The women's rugby team fell once again to the Navy Midshipmen Saturday afternoon, 53-24, their second loss to them this season.

Despite the loss, the Rams did pull off a major feat, that being scoring more points then they have against the Midshipmen the past three seasons.

"I think we gave them a good game today," stated junior Erin Furlong.

Navy didn't waste any time getting on the board, scoring a try just four minutes in. The conversion afterward made the score 7-0. West Chester came right back though, four minutes later, with a try from captain Michelle Kirk. This made the score 7-5. Hopes were high at this point, until Navy star Elizabeth Trujillo spoiled it with three tries in eight minutes. At the end of Navy's first half scoring, five unanswered scores left the score at 36-5.

This spring season has been a roller coaster ride for the Lady Rams. Coming off their second straight EPRU championship in the fall, the girls kept their momentum, rolling over North Carolina and James Madison while earning themselves a spot in the Sweet Sixteen tournament in Albuquerque. They lost their next two semifinal matches in the MARFU tournament, landing them in fourth place. The next week they took it all out on unbeaten Norwich in the second NCAA match ever, crushing the Cadets in front of their home crowd, only to fall to Navy the next week.

And that brings them to next weekend, the Sweet Sixteen Tournament. Can the girls take this last loss to Navy and turn it around on Brown University in the first round? Can they continue their steady progress forward and make it to the final four this year?

"We are so ready to beat Brown at nationals in New Mexico!" exclaimed Furlong.

They are definitely ready. Lets show them our support as they go into the biggest weekend of their season, and cheer them on to bring home the championship for West Chester University.
